Gamerips are great.
What do you think USFs are, in spirit?

By "gamerips" I mean rips where there's a nice bit of music, and then, out of nowhere comes the unholy voice of the character your playing as.

xSFs are emulated sound formats, IMO.

Well i got the batchripper working. How? I dunno, it should of worked the first time. I blame it either my compiler options or the way i inited the logging. This time i just left the logging alone.

Be done in no time.

SWEEEEEEET! That batchripper is a fickle beast, indeed. Something I ran into was a problem with running two instances of the ripper from the same networked drive, they interfered with each others' save states and I wound up with a bunch of silent files.

It's true that a lot of gamerips are hampered by sfx, but careful rippers avoid that. Think about the Super Smash Bros. Melee rip, or any other from a soundtest, SSBM is on par with a proper OST release (not that any was ever made...)

I compared USFs (and PSF in general) to gamerips because their goal is the same, to seperate the audio experience from playing the game. When there's no OST or the OST is monstrously incomplete that's your only option. USFs are closer to a direct conversion of whatever native data format the audio is in to WAV, which I'd also call a game rip.

if you want to help ripping or something, you can do it. Bear in mind that you would require a savestate for every track.

Yes, a very fickle beast. Im up to 0x5C

Sure, just send me the ripper and whatever's needed to generate these save states and I'll get right on it (note that I have no means of compiling here). I'd start on 0x84 or so, about halfway to the end from where you are now (assuming my memory about the last one being 0xa9 or so is accurate).

and by "send me" I mean "put in your web space and link"

a9? you sure? I only got up to 0x94 before it stopped working, maybe it was only that one.

damn, i didn't bring my savestate maker today, only
the savestates themselves. And i don't think it would be approprite to send 25MB of them.

I can try and make another whilst i rip the ones i got now.

Don't worry too much about it, though I could handle 25 MB fine at the lab (and it'd fit fine on the server these days).

You're right, I misremembered 9A as A9, which I think is the highest (though that one actually crashes, I'm referring again to the GSCentral page.

'k then. As i should have it done in no time anyway.
Well i'll just do the 0x94 i have now and check later for other indicies higher.

Ah, yes it says it freezes at 0x94, so i'll do that later, and assume that 0x95-0x99 work.

And i am still having that hyperthreading issue when it will only use ~50%.

No surprise, it's only one thread (for the CPU and RSP, audio spawns it's own).
Try two instances on one machine (two different dirs will be necessary).
