Possible to convert sound test in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate to MP3/WAV form? by Rew at 5:47 PM EDT on June 30, 2019
Hi folks! I know there are plenty of game rips of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate out there (including at least one on this forum), but those tend to be 2 loops per track. I want something that's as close as possible to listening to the actual Ultimate sound test on my computer or my smartphone (without having to take my Switch everywhere, haha).

What I'm looking for is a rip of the sound test in Ultimate with the same ordering and exact same track length, fade-out, etc. Is that... possible? To rip it in such a way, that is?

Currently what I'm doing is taking a rip I found of all Smash Bros. music (it's one that was posted to Reddit, that's high-quality, remastered and all that). I've weeded out the tracks not in the Ultimate sound test, then put all 876 remaining in order. And now it's a grueling slog going into Audacity on each and every track to cut each one down to the exact length (I have to estimate to the nearest quarter of a second) and use the envelope feature to get the fade-outs just right. And that doesn't cover the handful of tracks where the game rip version is shorter than the sound test version!

Is there an easier way? Is it possible to rip these tracks in their sound test form with the lengths and fade-outs as they are in the sound test? Are there any alternative methods I haven't considered yet?

This is Smash Ultimate's music files.

The songs have their original loops and data.

Get Foobar2000 and the VGMStream component from theFoobar2000 website.

That should do the trick.

Hi Bonboon--thanks, but this is pretty much the same as the rip I currently have. The track times are nowhere near where they are in the sound test.

I'm guessing it's not possible to get the track lengths as in the sound test without meticulously editing each one in Audacity then?

Pretty Much.

Are the sound test lengths similar to those in the Wii U game, which was 1 loop, a few seconds of the second loop, and a short fade out? Something like Loop Count 1, Fade Length 5, Fade Delay 5? Or something along those lines?

Hey Koopa--I'm not sure. Honestly I haven't touched Smash Wii U in ages. I suspect it's similar to Smash Ultimate in that it varies.

In Ultimate's sound test, most tracks do have 1 loop, followed by a quick fade that stretches out into a silence you can barely register (rather like an asymptote). However, tracks with smaller loops can go 2 or even more loops before the track ends. It just depends.

Probably the Sound test songs will have the same loop parameters.

Some songs, even in vgmstream, have more than one loop included in the first one, specially those shorter.

Analize some songs and try to identify when start to fade and how they length. You could then configure vgmstream to loop and fade with the values you get.

If that doesn't work, you should edit the length/start fade values track by track

See ya
