Trying to extract music from Xena: Warrior Princess - The Talisman of Fate (N64) by J2023 at 12:29 AM EDT on June 5, 2024
I've been attempting to extract music from Xena: Warrior Princess - The Talisman of Fate, as no one has done a complete gamerip of it yet. This game seems to have music stored as MIDIs like every other N64 game, so how do I extract the music as .miniusf files?

Unfortunately getting set up for USF ripping is a major ordeal. I collected some links to documents years back, the ripping situation hasn't improved since then. Here's an archive link for ugetab's post (though at this moment archive.org is under DDoS attack and may not be available).

N64 games do not use MIDI in a straightforward way. .miniusf is basically just a patch on .usflib, which is a save state and portion of the ROM. The sequence format is usually MIDI-like (something called CSeq, a Compressed Sequence), but the USF format is based on general emulation so that it can capture all the details of samples and synthesis.

If you're lucky someone with the skills and time will get to it, now that you brought it up. (though it looks like it was once requested back in 2012...)
